Activist Adeyanju calls for serious security intervention in the southeast ahead of the 2023 General Elections as unknown gunmen burn a police station house, kill two in Enugu

Some gunmen have reportedly attacked Inyi Police Division in Oji-River Local Government Area of Enugu State, killing two people and setting the station ablaze, according to a report by SaharaReporters. The incident, according to the report, occurred on Sunday morning.

One of the two people killed was said to be a police officer on duty when the hoodlums attacked the station.

A video of the incident seen by SaharaReporters on Sunday afternoon shows a building being used as a police station on fire and the bodies of two young men lying by the perimeter fence of the station.

Reacting to the ugly incident, the convener of Concerned Nigerians, Mr Deji Adeyanju, condemned the attack, describing it as a terrible crime that no serious government that cares about the security of the state should overlook.

“It saddens me that innocent Nigerians continue to lose their lives through such terrible crimes,” he said.

“And it saddens me even more that our government that should sit up and deal decisively with these killers is doing little or nothing to protect the lives of Nigerians.”

Speaking further, Mr. Adeyanju lamented about the continued security crisis in the southeast, which he says may pose a threat to free and fair elections in the region come 2023.

He further called on the federal government to partner with the governors in the region to work out a people-friendly approach to bringing lasting peace and security in the region ahead of the 2023 general elections.
