Electoral procedures in our country have devolved into a religious, tribal and partisan battleground

In reality, Nigeria is a wonderful country with a lot more to offer. We shouldn’t let our nation down because of our own racial or religious prejudices.

In Nigeria, there are a large number of people who are illiterate, but there are also many people who are literate. So-called “literates,” on the other hand, seem to be joining those who vote primarily on religion and tribe, rather than competence, rather than a person’s ability to make an informed decision. This is by no means a positive development. Better outcomes should be expected from us, given the country’s rising literacy level. What has become of Unity?

Religious and tribal feelings have clearly played a major role in our elections – voting for people of the same religious belief system as if it were a religious duty. The instant we allow our emotions to get in the way of our decision-making, we risk picking the wrong candidate, which might lead to even more serious consequences down the road.

We don’t think any of us want the nation to devolve into anarchy and catastrophe because of our differences of opinion or feelings. So, why not put a stop to this crude thought and behaviour once and for all in order for peace to reign in the country? The situation has deteriorated to the point that our Imams and Pastors are telling their members to vote exclusively for their followers and no one else.

In reality, Nigeria is a wonderful country with a lot more to offer. We shouldn’t let our nation down because of our own racial or religious prejudices.

In order to succeed, we must work together. It’s important that we don’t allow elections to shatter our strong togetherness since the elections won’t last long, but the damage and risks we are placing ourselves in may continue if we don’t take care of what we’re doing today.

In order to establish a stronger, more peaceful, and harmonious Nigeria, we encourage every Nigerian citizen to cast their votes based on the merits of any prospective candidate, rather than their ethnic or religious affiliations.
